Wellbeing workshops on pain, stress and anxiety

I’m delighted to be offering two wellbeing workshops this autumn in Dumfries. Following positive feedback from the workshop on understanding chronic (persistent) pain, I’m going to be delivering this workshop again, but it’ll be slightly longer at 3 hours to allow more time for the practical things.

In addition, I’m going to be delivering a new workshop on managing stress and anxiety. Stress is one of the biggest health problems in Western society at the moment because of the wide ranging impact persistent stress has on the body and the number of people who have ongoing stress due to work, family or other issues.

The format for both workshops will be for a morning of learning the theories behind each topic, what is going on in the body when there’s persistent pain (of any type) or stress and anxiety, and practical things that you can do to manage pain, stress and anxiety. The practical sessions will include gentle yoga movements, breathing techniques and mindfulness practices/meditation and guided relaxation. Each participant will be given a detailed handout with a summary of the theory, exercises and further useful resources.

You should have enough mobility to be able to sit (on a chair or on a yoga mat with blocks) and undertake gentle yoga movements from a range of lying, sitting and standing positions. The workshop will be a mix of periods of discussion, movement, guided meditation and relaxation. There will also be a short break with refreshments provided.

What to bring: something for taking notes (pen & paper or mobile device); comfy warm layers of clothes; water bottle; a blanket if you want for the relaxation sessions; and anything you specifically need to be comfy.

Booking essential – small group with limited spaces. Cost £25 (£20 concessions) per session or a discount if both are booked. Book directly using the online forms (no payment necessary at time of booking). I will confirm your place on receipt of the form. Payment due on the day if paying by cash or cheque, or the day before if paying by bank transfer. If you prefer to book directly in person please email, ring or message me.

Both sessions will be at the Wellness Centre, Dumfries, DG1 1HH, which is just behind Greyfriars Church in the centre of town.
